Boots:
Modern telemark boots are plastic shelled with thermofit liners designed to provide the correct amount of flex and stability to drive todays skis. The big four manufacturers who have high performance boots are Scarpa, Garmont, Crispi and Black Diamond.
Bindings:
There are many different binding manufacturers. Modern telemark technique requires a high amount of lateral stability to manage the pressures generated in the turn. It also requires the binding to be active on the rear foot to create pressure on the ball of the foot controlling the rear trailing ski. 22Designs is a manufacturer of note that produces traditional 75mm bindings with exceptional performance, adjustability, simplicity and strength in the design. A Canadian manufacturer of note is Genuine Guide Gear (G3) who supply bindings and skis. Rottefella is a manufacturer pushing the envelope of binding design with its New Telemark Norm (NTN) system.
Skis:
There are many ski manufacturers and some who specialize just in Telemark/Backcountry skis. People for whom skiing is a life style will have a quiver of skis to cover different conditions. In eastern Canada much of our skiing is at groomed lift served resorts or "On Piste". Most of the time the conditions are hard packed which requires a narrow waisted ski while out west conditions often dictate a wider ski for floatation in deep snow. A local instructor can best help to determine the best all-around ski for your area. Genuine Guide Gear (G3), Atomic
Poles:
There are many manufacturers of ski poles. For lift service skiing any pole the correct length will suffice. For backcountry skiing adjustable poles or pole/ probe combinations are used. These are a few of the better pole manufacturers. LEKI , KOMPERDELL , Black Diamond
Mountain Equipment Co-Op (MEC):
The Mountain Equipment Co-Op deserves a special mention since they have been a great supporter of Telemark and quality retail choice for decades. Some stores have Telemark rental equipment available for members.
